IMPACT Annual Recognition Awards

Every year the IMPACT Board of Directors presents the Annual Recognition Awards to Individuals for their outstanding contributions in the field of education for deaf and hard of hearing students.  Their efforts “Above and Beyond” the call of duty are an example to everyone that an individual can make a difference in educating our children.  IMPACT would like to take this opportunity to thank these individuals for their efforts that make the difference for our children.

 

GEORGE ATTLETWEED AWARD:

The George Attletweed Award is presented to an individual who exemplifies the quiet, diplomatic yet intense negotiable style that was typical of this kind and gentleman.  The candidates for this award possess similar characteristics of openness, accessibility, and commitment to bringing understanding between deaf and hearing communities.  Their efforts are seen to affect change with positive and long lasting results.

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTOR:

The Award for Outstanding Contributor includes individuals who may not be trained in the field of deafness; who are working in fields unrelated to providing direct services to deaf children or adults; and who may or may not be serving in a professional / administrative capacity.  This individual has demonstrated a commitment to understanding deaf and hard of hearing children and through their unselfish commitment has helped to bring about a strengthened relationship between the hearing and deaf worlds.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR:

The Teacher of the Year Award goes to teachers of the deaf or a regular classroom teacher with two or more deaf students. The candidates all serve in a teaching capacity for at least two years and provide opportunities for students beyond the classroom to enhance their communication experiences.  These individuals also demonstrate an understanding and support of different communication modes utilized by deaf and hard of hearing students.

The criteria for the selection is an individual who has worked in a supervisory  / administrative capacity for at least two years.  To be selected for this award this person has demonstrated commitment to providing quality education, accesses the deaf community and parents as a source of educational opportunities, and builds bridges between various educational programs.

The Professional of the Year award is given to an individual who is deaf, works in a professional capacity, and is seen as a “positive role model” for our deaf and hard of hearing students.  The candidates are also those who serve as a role model to parents, with a positive work ethic, that parents hope their children will aspire to.
